Mutual aid in the NHS
As of October 2023, patients who have been waiting over 40 weeks for treatment and do not have an appointment date could be eligible to request to move to an alternative care provider to possibly receive treatment sooner.
Eligible patients will be contacted with further information. Patients without a mobile number on record, or have requested they are not to be contacted by text, will receive a letter.
Additionally, if you wish to be considered to move to another hospital for your care, please submit your details via the national PIDMAS website: http://www.pidmas.nhs.uk/. If you need support to complete this please contact the NHS National Helpline on 0345 4506166.

The NHS App
Managing your health has never been easier with the NHS App—a free, secure tool that brings essential NHS services to your fingertips.
There are many reasons why the NHS app is an essential tool for monitoring health. When using the NHS app, you are able to manage appointments with GPs with ease, have access to your health records through your mobile phone, ordering repeat prescriptions, getting health advice and more benefits when using the app.
When using the NHS app you save time and money for both the NHS and yourself. For example, at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH), each text reminder costs around 7.5p, and each posted letter about £1. With over 550,000 outpatient appointments yearly, these costs add up. The NHS App delivers updates digitally at no cost, allowing funds to be redirected to patient care and reducing our carbon footprint.
To get started with using the NHS app, you can download it from the app store on your device or click the link that matches your device.
iOS Users: Download from the App Store
Android Users: Download from Google Play
When setting up an account within the NHS app, you will need to provide information to set your account up correctly. Then wait until your information has been verified, this process could take up to 24 hours. After this process, you should have full control over your health through your phone.
To be able to use the NHS app, you must be 13 years or older and registered with a GP surgery in the UK.
For help with the NHS App, visit the NHS App help and support page.
Embrace the convenience of the NHS App today and take control of your healthcare.
