Meet Jason, a Nurse working on the Respiratory Ward

Discover how Jason’s unwavering determination and commitment to lifelong learning led him from Healthcare Assistant to Registered Nurse.

Starting as a Healthcare Assistant, Jason’s determination to become a nurse was unwavering. However, faced with the responsibilities of supporting his three children, he realised that taking the traditional route into nursing, which required leaving work for three years, might be challenging.

Jason took the bold step in 2015 of returning to college to enhance his qualifications in mathematics and English. This dedication exemplified his strong commitment to his professional development. Jason’s perseverance and passion for nursing led him to discover the Trainee Nurse Associate (TNA) role at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. Recognising the opportunity, it presented to take on greater responsibilities and support nurses on the ward, he eagerly embraced the role, bridging the gap between a health care assistant (HCA) and Nurses.

He seized another opportunity in March 2021 by undertaking the Registered Nurse Degree Top-Up Apprenticeship which he completed in March 2023 enabling him to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Now a qualified nurse on the Respiratory ward, he is a great advocate of the Trust’s vision and values and encourages others to follow in his steps.
