A local cyclist has presented the Chatsfield Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a cheque for £5,293 to help support cancer patients in Doncaster and Bassetlaw.
Rob Drohan, whose close friend was cared for by the Suite, cycled an astonishing 206 miles in a sponsored round trip from Tickhill to Scarborough in May of this year, alongside 12 local riders, mostly made up of members of the Tickhill Velo Club.
Rob said: “The Scarborough cycle ride was the first our club has done and it was worth every mile. Doing something positive for our local hospital gives us such a sense of achievement and is a great way to show appreciation to the unit for the care they give their patients.”
The Chatsfield Suite is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and provides chemotherapy services for day-case haematology and solid tumour malignancies.
Chatsfield Suite Ward Manager, Lara Cunnane-Reay, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Rob and his friends at the Tickhill Velo Cycling club for this very generous gift. We will use the money towards turning one of our side rooms into a more comfortable place for patients to relax in, away from the busy clinic area.
“This donation is very much appreciated and we are very grateful to everyone who supported Rob’s cycle ride. The money will be put to good use to benefit our patients.”
The Tickhill Velo cycling club on the outskirts of Doncaster aims to create a social cycling experience for people of all abilities who enjoy riding bikes. To find out more go to
