Doncaster Concert Band holds special performance at hospital

A Doncaster based band performed outside a local hospital to bring Christmas cheer to patients.

Doncaster Concert Band, performed a medley of Christmas music within the main car park of Doncaster Royal Infirmary within ear shot of the hospital’s ward blocks on Saturday 18 December.

The band had been rehearsing in the Hut 5 car park of the hospital site post- lockdown as it provided an open-outdoor space that allowed for all the social distancing restrictions to be observed.

The performance was arranged by Sara Elliott, Head of Radiography and Committee Member for the band, in an effort to boost morale amongst the staff and patients at the hospital. Sara said: “After a challenging time for everyone we were delighted to get back to some form of rehearsals this summer thanks to the kind generosity of DBTH in allowing us outdoor rehearsal space. This concert was our small way of saying thank you for allowing this to happen and for the courageous and tireless efforts of the entire hospital team since the pandemic began.”

Suzy Brain England, Chair of the Board at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: “Spending time in hospital over Christmas can be worrying and lonely. This year, following a lengthy period of isolation from family and friends owing to pandemic restrictions, it’s especially important that we do all we can to make the experience as warm and comforting as possible. Thank you to the concert band for sharing their joyous music and talents with our patients and staff. It’s really helped to spread some much-needed cheer.”
