A rehabilitation assistant at Montagu Hospital has been recognised for his committed and enthusiastic approach to patient care.
Colin Sanderson, who has worked at the hospital for 15 years, was named Star of the Month for September after he dedicated his day off to help a patient move back into his own home.
After hearing that an elderly patient and his wife needed help in rearranging the furniture in their home to make space for a bed in their living room, Colin volunteered his time and moved the furniture himself.
Karen Minshull, Operations Manager at the Rehab Centre, said: “Colin’s care and enthusiasm are seen by his colleagues on a daily basis but these particular actions are over and above what we have come to expect as his norm.
“Colin supported someone through a life changing process, helping this patient’s wife come to terms with only changes in her husband’s health but also changes in her home. He gets to know his patients personally so can learn about their individual needs and sometimes their fears which can have an effect on their recovery, and ultimately their return home.”
Colin was also recognised in his nomination for his commitment to development and being the first to attend training sessions to improve patient care.
A panel of staff and managers chose Colin as Star of the Month and surprised him with a certificate and a shopping voucher. After receiving his award, Colin said: “I didn’t expect to receive Star of the Month, I see helping a patient in need as all part of the job. I work as part of a team and we all put 100% in so thank you and well done to all of them as well.”
