Following public elections, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals has appointed six new governors, with one returning to their previously held seat.
Every three years the Trust holds elections amongst its membership, encouraging local residents to stand as governors with two seats up for grabs in the Doncaster area, three on offer in Bassetlaw and a further two posts for the Rest of England and Wales.
Public governors play a vital role in representing the public and influencing how their local hospitals make plans to improve and develop services, with this year seeing more candidates standing for the role than ever before in the history of the Trust.
The successful candidates were:
- Mark Iain Bright and Lynne Logan in Doncaster
- Andrina Hardcastle, Peter Abell and Steven Marsh in Bassetlaw
- David Cuckson (returning) and Liz Staveley-Churton for the rest of England and Wales
Suzy Brain England, Chair of the Board at the Trust, said: “I want to congratulate our successful candidates and offer my commiserations to those unsuccessful in standing this time. This year saw a record-breaking number of candidates apply for the role which is not only fantastic for the Trust but also shows how passionate and engaged our local communities are with their hospital.
“Being a governor is a very rewarding role and it’s an opportunity to contribute towards improving the services we offer patients. They hold the Board of Directors to account, offer crucial input and give voice to local communities. On behalf of the entire Trust, I want to thank those governors who will be standing down for their service and dedication throughout their time in the role.”
