The Operations team who work on the East Coast Main Line have an important role to help keep the railway running safely and reliably. Stuart Frame is an Area Manager and his team are the first to respond to issues affecting the running of the railway, such as signalling faults or reported trespass incidents on the line.
The essential work they do means services can continue operating so people who cannot work from home, such as doctors and nurses, can use the railway to get to their jobs. It also means that food, medical supplies and fuel can continue to be transported across the country via freight services.
As well as working hard to keep the railway running, Stuart and his team across the East Coast Main Line have gathered spare supplies of vital PPE and delivered it to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. This includes 140 overalls and 25 pairs of protective goggles to be used by frontline NHS workers.
Network Rail is encouraging more workers to sign up and volunteer their skills where possible to help the NHS.
Stuart Frame, Area Manager for Network Rail, said: ‘Our teams work hard to keep vital train services moving and I’m so proud that that they’ve managed to gather the spare supplies to get equipment to where it is needed during these challenging times. NHS staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary are doing an amazing job and we wanted to support them where we can with any extra PPE. Many people across Network Rail are doing their bit to support frontline NHS workers, and it’s great to see more teams getting involved.’
Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: ‘On behalf of the Trust, I want to thank Network Rail for this kind donation which will help to keep colleagues safe as we tackle Covid-19. On a personal note, I have been truly moved by the support we have received from our communities and share my deep appreciation for those who have shown such extraordinary kindness during these challenging times.’
