The Medical Director is an incredibly important position within the Trust. As an executive director, the post-holder is responsible for the successful delivery of high quality patient care and treatment, and provides leadership to the organisation’s 600 medical, dental and surgical colleagues.
Dr Noble is currently one of the Trust’s Deputy Medical Directors, and oversees professional standards for medical teams throughout the organisation. Prior to this, the Doncaster resident oversaw the hospitals’ respiratory medicine service, as well as undertaking two Clinical Director posts from 2010 through to 2017.
Tim, who qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London in 1989, was born and raised in York. After five years of medical training, he practised in a number of hospitals in the south of England.
In 1995, Dr Noble returned to the North of England and completed a research project at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, qualifying as a specialist in respiratory medicine in 2002. A move to Barnsley Hospital followed in 2003 before starting his career at DBTH in 2006 as a Consultant Respiratory Physician.
Tim said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Medical Director at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. As a Trust, we have some incredibly talented health professionals, and, working alongside the extended team, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build upon the impressive work of my predecessor, Mr Sewa Singh, and further improve the quality of care, treatment and experience that we offer to our patients.
“These are changing times for the NHS, both locally and nationally. With an increased focus on technology, as well as an appetite to do things differently, I think it presents an incredible opportunity to advance what we do as a Trust, enhancing safety, working smarter and ultimately, being better for local people.
“As a proud Yorkshire man, and someone who has spent a great deal of my working life caring for the people of Doncaster, Worksop and the wider area, I am incredibly passionate about this Trust. On a personal note, Doncaster Royal Infirmary is where my daughter was born, and these are the hospitals which care for my friends and family. I have a vested interest in ensuring DBTH is the very best it can be for our communities.”
In conjunction with his role as Deputy Medical Director, Dr Noble currently undertakes the majority of his clinical practice at Montagu Hospital, caring for respiratory patients, often former miners, from the Dearne Valley. The consultant intends to continue this practice and will care for patients as Medical Director.
Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at the Trust, said: “From a very strong field of candidates, in appointing Dr Noble I believe we have secured a very talented, committed and diligent leader. Throughout his career at DBTH, Tim has gone above and beyond, and I am confident he will further enhance our patient services, ultimately helping us in our aim to be the safest Trust in England, outstanding in all that we do.”
Dr Tim Noble will become Medical Director in late March following the retirement of the current post holder Mr Sewa Singh, who has served the Trust for over 20 years.
Richard continues: “As a Trust, we have benefited immensely from Sewa’s expertise, insight and skills, both in his clinical practice and as Medical Director. On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I wish him the very happiest and healthiest of retirements.”
