Following a robust selection process, two Non-Executive Directors, Linn Phipps and Neil Rhodes, have been appointed by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals’ Board of Governors.

Non-Executive Directors (NED) play a crucial role by bringing an independent perspective to the Trust boardroom. They support the Chair, promote NHS values and contribute valuable insight to the development of strategy.

Linn, who joined the Trust 1 January, has an extensive background in the public sector, originally in public transport and local government Director roles.  For over 18 years she held a number of NED and consultancy posts, most notably serving as Chair for NHS Primary Care Services and Healthwatch Leeds.

Linn’s consultancy and non-executive work focuses on coaching, mediation and facilitation, addressing governance and risk and reducing health inequalities.  She has experience of national roles representing patient and public voice, serving on two NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) committees as a Lay Member, and Chair of NHS England’s Patient Online Programme Board’s Stakeholder Forum.

Joining Linn later in the year is Neil Rhodes, the Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police and a Non-Executive Director of the Youth Justice Board where he is responsible for finance, audit and risk.

During his time as Chief Constable, Neil has led considerable change programmes developing a ‘whole force’ approach for Lincolnshire Police. Working to change the senior management structure of the constabulary, with colleagues, Neil has also ensured operational officers are refocused on performance delivery and quality of service for the community.  He has also spearheaded wider service improvement in relation to the outsourcing of back office, custody and control room functions, a change that is receiving national attention.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Chair, Suzy Brain England, welcomed the new appointees: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint two high-caliber candidates to our Non-Executive Director vacancies. Both have skills which will be invaluable to the board and the organisation going forward, and I look forward to working with them over the coming months and years.”

The new Non-Executive directors were appointed after an open advertisement and recruitment process in which the Trust’s Board of Governors were involved.
