The annual event, which was hosted by Heart Yorkshire’s Richard ‘Dixie’ Dickson, took place this year on Thursday 2 November at the Doncaster Dome.
As part of the Trust’s reward and recognition programme, the event provides colleagues the opportunity to nominate their team members deserving of special mention and celebrates the amazing achievements of teams and individuals over the past twelve months.
The ‘Patient Champion’ Award spotlights colleagues who continually show their caring and compassionate nature in their support for patients, championing their needs to ensure they have the best possible care experience.
This year’s Patient Champion recognises Lisa Fluin, Activities Coordinator in Rehab 1, for embodying the true spirit of compassionate healthcare.
Lisa was commended by her team at Montagu Hospital for regularly going above and beyond her duties. Known for always taking the time to do things that make a difference in the lives of her patients, colleagues described how Lisa takes time and care in organising engaging activities to ensure patients feel their best.
Among her many initiatives, Lisa has introduced ‘Fruity Friday’, a delightful tradition at Rehab 1, where she shares an assortment of fresh fruits with patients and staff, bringing joy and promoting healthy choices. The Coordinator has also developed a breakfast club each morning, transforming ordinary moments into special occasions with her attention to detail and care.
In addition, her one-on-one interactions with patients, such as playing games and giving hand massages, demonstrate Lisa’s dedication to providing personalised care and creating a positive atmosphere on the ward.
One of her nominators, Stacey Dyer, Healthcare Assistant in Rehab, shared: “Lisa goes about and beyond for our patients and loves nothing more than making them smile. She is Rehab 1’s Wonder Women and we would be lost without her.”
During the evening, winners of thirteen categories were presented with their awards. The event showcased hospital heroes across the Trust, recognising amazing contributions in Wellbeing, Inclusion and Change and celebrated the achievements of rising stars and champions behind the scenes.
