In collaboration with Doncaster’s Remake Learning Festival, Born and Bred in Doncaster (BaBi-D) will be hosting a teddy bear’s picnics within the Central Family Hub at Doncaster.

Grab your favourite teddy and head down to the local family hub!

What is BaBi’s 2nd Teddy Bear’s Picnic?

After last years amazing success we are excited to host the second BaBi D teddy bear’s picnic. This session will be aimed at families with children aged 0-4 years old and older siblings are welcome too! There will be lots of activities for the whole family, including a picnic for the little ones.

What activities are planned for these sessions?

Activities are aimed at children and their parents and include a story time and a chance to chat about the research study with members of the BaBi-D team.  Some of the activities are listed below.

For parents

Research Rainbow – Vote for your top research priority

A rainbow poster will be labelled with the top six research priorities identified from previous work, these priorities will be placed on each colour of the rainbow. Attendees will then be asked to place a sticker on the colour that corresponds to the research topic they feel is most important to themselves and their families.

What does health mean to you?

This question will be printed and wall mounted on several pieces of flip-chart paper. Post-it notes, pens, crayons and stickers will be provided for attendees to write, draw or stick their responses to the question.

For the young ones

Storytime with the Research Rhino and BaBi Bear

The research team at DBTH have a beautiful crocheted Rhino mascot named Ears who will introduce her own new baby, Jade, to our families and their new friend BaBi Bear. BaBi Bear is a polar bear adopted by our team, and we need the children’s help to name it.  Ears, Jade and BaBi Bear help our team to read a story to the children on our picnic blankets. Families will be encouraged to bring along their own soft toys to join in and soft drinks and snacks will be provided.

The Family hub will also provide activities such as small crafts, outdoor games, sand and water play and playdough.

Where is the Teddy Bear Picnic session?

All sessions will take place between 11am and 12:30pm with a picnic afterwards.

About the BaBi-D research project

The Born and Bred in Doncaster (BaBi-D) project is a network of local electronic birth cohort studies. Supported by the Born in Bradford programme, BaBi Doncaster invites pregnant women to join the project and allow health researchers to join together routinely collected data about them and their baby.
The Born and Bred in Doncaster (BaBi-D) research programme aims to help improve the health and wellbeing of children and families across Doncaster, with this programme maintaining a strong focus on health inequalities and inclusion. The data provided from this cohort study will help the partnership in gaining a better understanding of what local families want and need from healthcare services across the borough, ensuring locally commissioned services are inclusive, with consideration of additional research for further understanding and improvement for our local population.
