Occupational Therapists contribute to the care and rehabilitation of both inpatients and outpatients. They work with patients of all ages who are born with, or have experienced a physical illness, mental illness or injury.
They concentrate on enabling patients to manage and maintain as much independence as possible within their daily living activities. Occupational Therapists work closely within the Multi-Disciplinary Team and liaise with patients, their families and carers where appropriate.
Dependent on the specialist area of work, the occupational therapy treatment programme can include:
- Assessment of personal activities of daily living
Assessment of domestic activities of daily living - Discharge Planning
- Provision of equipment
- Home environment assessments
- Manual handling assessment
- Rehabilitation
Group Work - Cognitive and perceptual screening

- Integrated discharge team
- Acute Stroke
- Stroke Rehabilitation
- Montagu Rehabilitation centre
- RAPT (Rapid assessment programme team – Emergency Department)
- Outpatient Hand unit – Rheumatology and Orthopaedics
- Paediatrics
